Pediatric Audiology

Our pediatric audiology team provides comprehensive hearing care for children from infancy through adolescence. Early identification and intervention are essential for speech, language, and learning, which is why we use evidence-based testing techniques and child-friendly approaches to ensure accurate results at every age. Whether your child needs a routine screening, diagnostic evaluation, hearing aids, or ongoing monitoring, our audiologists are here to guide your family every step of the way.

Hearing Screenings & Early Detection

We offer age-appropriate hearing screenings for infants, toddlers, and older children. Screenings help identify potential concerns early so that further testing or intervention can begin as soon as possible. Families, pediatricians, and schools often refer children to us when a screening is missed, failed, or inconsistent.

Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations

Our clinic provides a full range of pediatric diagnostic tests tailored to your child’s developmental level and ability to participate. These include:
For infants and very young children who are beginning to localize sound. Children learn to turn toward sounds and are rewarded with animated visual reinforcers, allowing us to measure hearing thresholds reliably.
For toddlers and school-age children who can follow simple play-based instructions. Children respond to sounds by completing fun tasks (like putting a block in a bucket), making testing engaging while still clinically accurate.

An objective test that measures how the hearing nerve and brainstem respond to sound. ABRs are especially important for infants, children who cannot reliably complete behavioral tests, or situations where more detailed information is needed.
A quick, objective test that evaluates cochlear (outer hair cell) function. It helps us determine the type and degree of hearing difficulty and is especially useful for infants and young children.

Pediatric Hearing Aids

When hearing loss is identified, our audiologists provide expert hearing aid fittings for children of all ages. We work closely with families to ensure:
  • Accurate device selection
  • Child-specific programming
  • Real-ear verification
  • Counseling on wear time, troubleshooting, and communication strategies
  • We prioritize comfort, durability, and features that support speech, learning, and safety in everyday environments such as home, daycare, and school.

Cochlear Implants for Children

For infants who may be candidates for cochlear implantation, we coordinate referrals to Children’s Hospital for evaluation and surgical management. This ensures access to specialized pediatric CI teams and the resources needed for early intervention.
For older children (typically around age 8 and above), we are happy to provide cochlear implant evaluations, device counseling, and post-activation follow-up. We support families through the entire process, including candidacy discussions, device selection, and long-term programming.

Collaboration With ENT Providers

We work closely with ENT physicians to identify and manage medical conditions that affect hearing, including:
  • Ear infections
  • Middle-ear fluid
  • Structural ear differences
  • Impacted cerumen
  • Persistent hearing concerns after treatment

Our coordinated approach ensures children receive the appropriate medical care and timely audiologic follow-up.
